The 7 Things I Learned While Off Social Media for 40 Days

Being off social media for 40 days was liberating and I learned a lot. I read more, accomplished more and understood where social media should fit into my life. Everyone should take a break from it and see what it means to you.

The 7 things I learned while off social media for 40 days are:

  • For being a naturally curious person I didn’t miss seeing everyone’s life everyday.
  • It was refreshing to NOT know what was going on in people’s lives when I saw them later.
  • You don’t know what the hell is going on, you’re not invited to things unless they remember to contact you another way.
  • I enjoying revisiting websites and catching up with people’s blogs of those who I had ignored because we weren’t connected on social media.
  • I preferred to curate my own news sources instead of allowing facebook to do it for me.
  • The time I had spent on social media previously did not equal the value I got out of it.
  • I got a lot of more done and now know where social media should be prioritized in my life.

Social media has its place – to catch up with family and friends, but it will take a back seat in my life so that I can focus on other things that bring me more satisfaction, like connecting with friends and family in person, hearing stories for the first time, talking with them on the phone, plus working on writing and audio books.
