Throwback Thursday: The worst acting I ever did was in Shakespeare’s The Tempest. It was a college production. The show looked great, but it was poorly acted. There’s a thing in acting called “first impulse acting.” This means you make acting choices based on your first impulse of the material. This is almost always the weakest choice because characters, like people, are much deeper and relay different levels of information.
There’s nothing better than good Shakespeare and nothing worse than bad Shakespeare. This version of The Tempest was chock full o’ first impulses.
This screen cap is from a long lost video. Leslie and I were asked to do this in front of the cameras for a broadcasting class. Poor choice on their part. 🙂
BTW – Leslie was one of the most naturally beautiful women I have ever met, both inside and out. Working with her made the horrendous memories of this production almost worth it – haha.
