Throwback Thursday: Actors will take just about any legitimate paying work. Actors can’t be choosers 🙂 One such gig was as a third place ping pong ball in a Florida Lottery commercial (screen grab print below – sorry for the crappy quality).
The coolest part of this experience wasn’t being a ping pong ball (because, how could that be cool?). The best part was that it was shot on the Disney/MGM Studios. A few years earlier, when I was a senior in college, a friend of mine (Mike McLane) and I went to the park. On the tour, we looked through the windows to the soundstage down below to what was being shot that day and I said, “How cool would it be to get to work down there?”
Two years later, I was on set, looking up at the people on the same tour and smiled. I had hoped my work on that stage would have been more profound, but at least I got to live a small part of my bigger dream.
Life as an actor is full of small victories. You cherish each one, no matter if you’re a ping pong ball or playing Hamlet.
