I loved the new season of Jack Ryan. It’s a well crafted, topical storyline that hits all the right notes and the cast is spot on.
As much as I thought season one was a quality show, I had grown tired of the introductory story of the character, after having seen it with Alec Baldwin in The Hunt for Red October, re-introduced in Patriot Games with Harrison Ford, then again with Ben Affleck in The Sum of All Fears and, finally, with Chris Pine in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.
Granted, not every reboot approached the origin story the same way. As a matter of fact, Jack Ryan season one and The Sum of All Fears are the closest aligned when it comes to introducing Tom Clancy’s memorable hero. But, I’m glad we’re passed it.
Now that the world and characters have been established, season two of Jack Ryan hit its stride this year, with a real-world, complex socio-political storyline that shows how tough it is to make black and white decisions in the gray world of espionage, spy craft and national interests.
Well done, Amazon.
