A lack of sleep was beginning to catch up with Damien. He shook his head and straightened in his car seat as he pulled out of the library parking lot. He needed to keep his edge.

He was close to stopping a killer.

The key to the identity to Mark’s copycat wasn’t what was in those press clippings Damien had read. It was the information left out. The killer mimicking Mark’s work knew details that could only come from two sources – Mark or someone inside the Hayeston police department.

When dealing with sociopaths, he knew there was always a chance Mark was leading Damien and Sanders on a wild goose chase. His old friend had nothing better to do. Playing games with the cop who put him there and his old friend from childhood could bring a little joy to those idle hours surrounded by plain walls.

If Damien was able to exclude those on the force from being the culprit, the investigative team could focus on with whom Mark shared his evil secrets.
But a killer working in the department was not out of the question. Corruption and vanity could push the morally weak to do something they never imagined was possible.

Until he knew for sure, Damien had to keep this lead to himself. He couldn’t trust anyone inside the force, other than Ted. He’d head into the station, start poking around, and keep his work away from prying eyes.

First, he’d update Sanders on what he’d uncovered. For all his faults, and there were many, the old man had worked his ass off catching Mark. He’d want to know if there was a rat in the department murdering the girls themselves.

As Damien picked up his cell phone to call Sanders, it rang in his hands.

It was Decker.

The conversation was a short as the last one he had with his lieutenant.

The news was equally disturbing. Another blonde teen girl was missing.
